Employers for Carers (often just known as EfC) is a growing membership forum and service for employers who are seeking to support the carers in their workforce and retain key talent. EfC is managed and supported by the specialist knowledge of Carers UK and is steered by a Leadership Group of employers. Healthwatch Solihull1 Enterprise CentreB37 7TP

We Monitor

Through our community engagement activities, data intelligence systems, enter and view programme and our Healthwatch Champions, we continually monitor service delivery through concerns raised, feedback received and the Healthwatch Public Advisory Group use this intelligence to inform and shape the Healthwatch priorities and activities.

We Analyse

Using our bespoke evidence and insight software and in-house research expertise, we analyse consumer feedback as well as a broad range of data sources to produce evidence and insight reports and information dashboards which can provide trends, statistical and performance analysis of services for use in monitoring and challenging service commissioning and provision.

We Investigate

We use our various sources of intelligence, and our range of powers, including the ability to enter and view provider premises, to investigate where concerns about services have been raised. We promote opportunities for consumer involvement in consultations, service reviews and surveys and actively seek out consumer feedback on their experiences of health and social care services across Solihull. Using our powers to request information we raise issues with and seek answers from commissioners and providers in order to support our investigation of concerns.

We Challenge

Using our evidence and insight reports and data dashboards as a robust evidence base, we challenge commissioners and providers on the quality, access and delivery of health and social care services and ensure that these are acted upon. We always seek feedback on what has been done as a result of our reports, and in turn report this back publicly.

Our carers support programmes are residential and we have designed them with your needs in mind.

From the moment you arrive, members of the RSAS Training Team are available to help you to feel comfortable and to get the most out of your time away from home.

Each day there is time planned in for you to ask questions about the programme or about practical things to do with your room, or the venue in general. There are lots of opportunities to talk about how you are feeling with other carers and members of the RSAS training team and, and about what you already know, what you are learning, and anything you want to know more about.

The main sessions on each day cover a range of topics including:

Understanding dementia – what causes dementia and why it affects each individual in a different way.

More about dementia – responding to changing behaviour when things get difficult.

Legal and financial matters – things you may need to know if you are supporting somebody who has dementia.

Looking after yourself – why carers need to take extra care of their own health and wellbeing.

Building Resilience – what can we learn from carers who have been in our shoes and experts who have helped carers in the past to build resilience.

Solihull Action Through Advocacy11-13B37 7DEAbout Us Our Mission is: To enable the most vulnerable to have a voice and be heard; securing their rights, and taking action to influence positive change. We work with over 300 people each year advocating for people with learning disabilities and older people. We help people develop self-advocacy skills and support peer advocates in campaigning for change. We enable people to have more control over their lives making any changes they wish to. What we do: The ACE Community Project. Our Lottery Funded project is all about Aspirations, Choice, and Empowerment. We deliver various workshops to enable people to increase their skills and self-esteem. We use film and visual performance in our drama workshops to raise awareness about hate crime and promote our anti-bullying message to the local community. We undertake community advocacy - all advocacy that is not a legal entitlement. We support you to manage various situations you may come across in your daily life. We help you get your voice heard, help you make informed decisions, accompany you and support you in meetings, listen to you and more. Peer Advocacy Peer Advocacy supports people to speak out about things that matter to them. Peer Advocates get involved with different groups and organisations, including the NHS, police, local council, and different charities. They work hard to make sure that the views of people with a learning disability are included. Peer Advocates are members of the Changing Lives group and represent the views of people with learning disabilities in Solihull at the local Learning Disability Partnership Board and Regional Forum. Peer Visitors are a group of people with learning disabilities who visit residential care homes in Solihull to make sure residents are happy with the quality of service they receive. Parents Advocacy Parents with learning difficulties can and do make good parents, sometimes they need extra support to do this. When that support isn’t in place some people may struggle with caring for their children. We can help to find out what support is available and ask for other services to help them and their family. When there are child protection concerns, we support and enable parents to be involved at meetings and in court to make sure their views and opinions are heard. Statutory Advocacy: IMCA, DoLS, and Care Act We provide Independent Mental Capacity Advocates (IMCAs) for people who have been assessed as lacking capacity to make specific decisions. In some cases, this is a legal requirement. If you‘re over 16 and a decision needs to be made about long-term changes in your accommodation or you are undergoing serious medical treatment, people come to us to help. If you don’t have the capacity to make the decision, or there’s no-one independent of services to consult with about the decision, an IMCA gets involved. In special cases, we help with care reviews and adult protection and sometimes are asked to do this even where family members or others are available. Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards IMCAs get involved when decisions are being made about depriving people of their liberty and there is no-one available to consult about the decision. Someone has their liberty deprived if they are under continuous supervision and are not free to leave, and the person doesn’t have the capacity to consent to these arrangements. A Deprivation of Liberty is usually applicable when a person is in a care home or nursing home; it may be that the front door is coded or locked and controlled by the staff, it could be that the person is deemed to have no capacity and requires constant supervision. IMCAs are available to fill gaps between appointed representatives, if a representative is unpaid or if the local authority believes the presence of an IMCA is beneficial. The advocate will work with the person deemed to lack capacity and relevant professionals and carers to consider their wishes and best interests. Relevant Persons R

Solihull Conservation Volunteers is a small but dedicated local practical conservation group.  There is no paid staff and is entirely run by volunteers in their spare time.  We have been carrying out environmental work all over the borough of Solihull for over 25 years.  This hard work have turned poor and neglected woodland and meadow areas into wildlife havens with access available to all.

Most of the work has been on SMBC owned sites and has helped in some of these sites becoming Local Nature Reserves obtaining the prized Green Flag status.  All out tasks are agreed with Solihull Council as part of their conservation plans and we work closely with the Borough Ecologist and other members of the council.  SCV has also worked on various sites owned by local parish councils and the National Trust.  Further afield SCV has worked for various National Park Authorities and the National Trust.  SCV has also worked on various sites owned by local parish councils and the National Trust.  Further afield SCV has worked for various National Park Authorities and the National Trust.

SCV has the ability to carry out a wide variety of conservation tasks from habitat creation like coppicing, hedgelaying and meadow cutting to access improvement tasks like pathwork, sleeper bridge construction and replacing stiles with kissing gates.  The results of our work are enjoyed by thousands people a year throughout the Solihull area.  We have improved the access to a number of the sites as well as increasing the benefit of the areas for wildlife as well as the local community.

Funding for the group comes from modest payment for work carried out for Solihull Council and other bodies, as well as donations from SCV members and the general public.  Volunteer also give a lot of time for the group apart from tasks and donate materials and equipment.

Solihull Model Railway CircleSt Marys Scout HutB92 8PNSolihull Model Railway Circle was founded in Olton in 1951, making it one of the oldest model railway clubs in the Midlands, and it is still active today. Some of the first club meetings were held at the Manor House in Solihull. The current longest serving member joined in the late 1960s, but new members are joining us all the time. The main objectives of the club are to share and improve knowledge and skills between the members, to produce scenic model railway layouts in different scales and formats and to exhibit them to the general public. The existing members are of widely varying ages, skills and interests, from beginners to veterans. Within the club there are members with experience in loft layouts, baseboard building, track laying, electrics, DCC, signalling, locomotive and rolling stock building, detailing and weathering, model engineering, scenery, architectural modelling and civil and military road vehicle modelling. The club is currently building a new layout. It is 16 feet by 2 feet and is an OO gauge branch line terminus set in Scotland. The layout will be both DC and DCC operated and use hand made point work by ‘Marcway’ and ready made ‘SMP’ plain track. Scenery features include a curved viaduct, based on Killiecrankie, over a tidal river with shingles and, around the station and goods yard area, there is planned to be a village and harbour with prototypical scratch-built buildings. Our main layout is Cherwell, which is a scenic OO gauge, 26 feet 6 inches by 10 feet 6 inches, four track mainline with an integral branch line. It features working automatic signals and has largely scratch-built buildings with a local theme, for example The Manor House, The Mason’s Arms, The George Hotel, The Fat Cat Cafe, Tyseley Station, Water Orton Station and Kings Heath Library. The layout still needs some buildings and scenery work, and has been partially rewired for added reliability. It was built mainly to display scale length mainline trains, those being run reflecting the varying interests of the membership. Trains run are usually British outline, but can come from any part of the UK mainland and from any date between about 1900 to the present day. The layout is usually run on the first Thursday of every month. The club also owns an O gauge continuous run layout, Avonbridge, which is three-tracked, with the third line used for goods only. It is 13 feet across and 29 feet long and has a minimum radius of 6 feet. This layout has a Midland Railway theme and has a main station building modelled on that previously at Northfield, a platform shelter from Moseley and a model of a section of the Edstone canal viaduct from near Bearley (almost MR!), along with various huts and a signal box, but it still requires further scenery and buildings. It has been built to display reasonable length trains and to allow continuous running, with trains being run again reflecting our individual collections. Various further developments of this layout are under consideration. The layout is normally run on the fourth Thursday of the month and if you are an 'O' gauge modeller we would love to see your models running on our layout!New members are most welcome, whether experts or beginners and whether they wish to work on the club layouts or just enjoy a social evening once a week. If you are not sure if you wish to join, we will be very pleased to welcome you as a guest.
